Fords of the Sixties by Michael Parris,

Fords of the Sixties by Michael Parris,
Continuing his classic series on Ford Motor Company Michael Parris gives us the inside stories of Ford during the total performance sixties. This decade brought us the Falcon, the Mustang, Shelby Cobras and motorsports wins from Indy and NASCAR to Trans Am and LeMans. Nothing was beyond the grasp of Henry Ford II and his great company. Style and auto racing were playing an important roll in Ford's-growth. Henry still called the shots, Iacocca brought on the Mustang and Carroll Shelby gave Ford the international respect in racing it sought. Henry wanted to buy, but Ferrari wasn't selling. So he turned Shelby loose with his Cobras and then the GT40s. And LeMans belonged to Ford. And in NASCAR, drivers like Fireball Roberts, Freddie Lorenzen and Cale Yarborough were lighting the southern speedways on fire.

John Wayne - John Ford Collection
John Wayne - John Ford Collection
John Ford was easily one of the greatest, most prolific and versatile directors Hollywood ever produced. Combined with a star of the caliber and magnetism of John Wayne, what emerges is pure cinematic magic. WHV now introduces a ten-disc set featuring eight of the team's finest collaborations: "The Searchers: Ultimate Collector's Edition" (1956), "Stagecoach: Special Edition" (1939), "Fort Apache" (1948), "The Long Voyage Home" (1940), "Wings Of Eagles" (1957), "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" (1948), "They Were Expendable" (1945)" and "3 Godfathers" (1948). "The Searchers" - Working together for the 12th time, John Wayne and director John Ford forged "The Searchers" into a landmark Western offering an indelible image of the frontier and the men and women who challenged it. Wayne plays an ex-Confederate soldier seeking his niece, captured by Comanches who massacred his family. He won't surrender to hunger, thirst, the elements or loneliness. And in his five-year search, he encounters something unexpected: his own humanity. "Stagecoach: Special Edition" - Nine disparate travelers are thrust together on a Stagecoach destined for Apache territory...and movie immortality. As the Ringo Kid, director John Ford cast a lanky veteran of 70 B-movies, serials and shorts named John Wayne. Each rifle shot and closeup rang out the news: a new star is born. Claire Trevor, Thomas Mitchell (his Academy Award-winning performance) and others made memorable impressions. "Fort Apache" - Sent from Washington to take command of Fort Apache, Lt. Colonel Owen Thursday is a bitter man, determined to win a glorious victory over the Indians. The men of the fort, including captains York and Collingwood, resent Thursday's arrogant and ignorant ways. Because he betrays the trust of Apache Chief Cochise, Thursday and his men are fatally ambushed. York, the only survivor, decide's to cover-up his commander's incompetence to honor the memory of his fallen friends.
